UNARMOURED (2024)
In line with Dog Rising, this new opus will look this time at a form of Cosmic-Eroticism. I’m looking at developing material that is always edging, where a discreetness may appear, and looks nothing like porn or what we expect of eroticism. But rather a soft-core approach.
We all begin in abstraction, ungendered but biologically sexed, and as we develop, we take on a gendered form either via performance or constructs of social projections. Cosmic- Eroticism, might aim to dematerialize, to once more abstract the body and transcend its limitations.
It’s the idea to consent not to be a single being but making an appeal toward the cosmic range. Becoming vast again…and the freedom that it might provide.
… Infinity is an emotion… It is this emotion I would like to stimulate with this work.
This cosmic corporality can provide different ways of approaching the body as an architecture. We can be the jar and the water that pours, the wave and the rock that it sculpts.
The ongoing physical research speaks to the liquids in our body, to its water, the memory keeper.
I will use music theory as a template for communication, a safety net, or a reassuring language with which we can observe our interactions within the group.
I invite modulations, interferences, resolutions and waves in the work, as ways to navigate the thick air of the feeling of unity with the other. How can we produce and understand certain musical motives in our bodies and within the group in order to create polyphonies/polyrhythms that enhance our listening skills?
This research specifically looks at the multiplicity of selves and how we transform over time and how we reflect on these changes.
I have a deeply felt experience as a mother of two kids: I sustained a serious injury with the birth of my second child and I decided to approach movement despite my new limitations with what feels like, in a sense, a new self. This injury revived old traumas… but also eternal questions around my sexual and gender identity. I chose a team of queer people who carry similar questions through their own very specific and different experiences and who are as well on their own healing paths. I invite them to bring what they love and what they are in conflict with so we can enlarge the pool of creativity and the spectrum of human experiences that will be visible on stage. I aim at making visible the notions of care and empathy that can exist in the process although we work through demanding physical landscapes.
This piece is here to find radiance and Eros in the enveloping darkness.
This work aims at reclaiming an erotic energy that belongs to childhood, one that speaks to matter and emptiness more than to the Other and that isn’t tainted by judgment of emotionally charged.
I’m thinking about an erotic energy that goes through us, that propels us with force and makes us curious.
I will also be on stage, accompanied by three artists, following my desire to offer a custom space to each performer, a generous space in tune with the reality of each of their bodies.
